MELCOR® originally designed mil-spec audio equipment for the United States Military as well as broadcast consoles for the AM/FM Radio Market.
With the onslaught of rock n’ roll and the need for improved recording capabilities in the late 1960’s, MELCOR® shaped the sound of a long-haired generation with their 1731 Op Amp. The 1731 Op Amp injected new life into the recordings of the late 60’s, giving rock n’ roll the edge it deserved.

T.H.E. Company Mo 5 Mic Pre Plug-In is modeled after our 500 Series hardware unit, featuring N.O.S. Beyer Input Transformer, N.O.S. 709 Op Amp, and new Jensen JT-123 Output Transformer. Our plugin was meticulously modeled after the original mid 60’s Motown™ “Metropolitan Desk” which currently resides at Uptown Recorders in Tacoma, Washington. T.H.E. Company Mo 5 plug-in gives users the “no frills” saturated sound of the original mic-pre circuit used on countless Motown™ records throughout the 1960’s.
